Szymon Piech

Technical Lead

Szymon Piech is an experienced District Heating Engineer with knowledge of wide variety of systems in UK as well as other European countries.

Szymon Piech started his DH journey in 2008 when joining Fortum Heat and Power where over four years he was responsible for all aspects of operation management and maintenance of large-scale DH networks including, but not limited to maintenance planning, commissioning, day-to-day dispatch operations. During this period Szymon was a crucial part of multiple subject groups with a highlight of first implementation of company wide hydraulic optimisation system (Termis).

After a move to the UK and a short break from DH, Szymon joined Engie Urban Energy – where he occupied multiple positions responsible in the most part for providing data-driven intelligence for operational excellence using tools such as EnergyPro, Termis and Excel to back up operational decisions. His next step was a more technical challenge of managing improvement projects across multiple networks. During this period Szymon helped implement a new hydraulic optimisation software package called Nemo, multiple AMR systems across networks, and developed company standards for technical delivery and many more.

In 2021 Szymon accepted the challenge of becoming Breathe Energy Technical Asset Manager helping to drive performance of own and customers DH networks by improving BMS strategies, leading improvement projects and ensuring compliance.

Szymon Piech’s current role as Technical Lead is key to ensuring design solutions meet the high expectations of the clients and provide enough information to carry out the construction to the highest quality. His role is to manage a team in order to produce designs through all stages of the development from preliminary to as-built.
